Carbapenem-hydrolyzing class D β-lactamase OXA-48 in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from Tunisia

European Journal of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Volume 31, No. 6, Year 2012

Two carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates producing the plasmid-encoded carbapenemhydrolyzing OXA-48 were identified. These isolates, recovered from two patients hospitalized in two different hospitals in Tunisia in December 2010, were not clonally related. Molecular investigations showed that both isolates coproduced the narrow-spectrum β-lactamases TEM-1 and SHV-1, together with the extended-spectrum β-lactamase CTX-15. © Springer-Verlag 2011.
