Corneal keloids - A histopathological study

Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Volume 218, No. 5, Year 1982

Corneal keloids, elevated corneal scars that protrude beyond the original site of injury, were found in nine globes enucleated from young African patients with the diagnosis of anterior staphyloma. All the cases showed evidence of previous corneal perforation and protuberant hypertrophic scar of the anterior corneal stroma. Corneal keloids may be more common than previously thought, and may be related to over production of collagen in the scar tissue of susceptible individuals. © 1982 Springer-Verlag.
