Primary endocrine tumor of the liver: A difficult diagnosis

Journal Africain d'Hepato-Gastroenterologie, Volume 6, No. 2, Year 2012

Digestive endocrine tumors have usually a gastrointestinal and duodenopnacreatic location. Hepatic metastases are frequent. The primary hepatic localization remains exceptional. We report a new case revealed in a 66-years woman by epigastric mass and a deterioration of general condition. The appearance on CT scan and on histologic examination of percutaneous biopsy was in favor of a hepatocellular carcinoma. It's immunohistochemical study that showed the endocrine nature of the tumor. Various endoscopic and morphological examinations, especially octreoscan, have ruled out any extrahepatic location, which helped to retain the hepatic primary origin of the tumor. © Springer-Verlag France 2012.
