DiabCare Algeria

Medecine des Maladies Metaboliques, Volume 4, No. 1, Year 2010

DiabCare Algeria is a prospective, multicentre, transversal study, which included 977 type diabetic patients (86% with type 2 diabetes), mean age 48 years, with an average 10-year disease duration. Although 45% of the type 2 patients were on insulin, only 18.7% reached an HbA1c <7%, and the mean HbA1c for the whole population was 8.5%. This certainly reflects the insufficient treatment intensification and limited therapeutic education. Micro- and macrovascular complications as well as the risk factors associated to diabetes are reported. Improvement in outcome will be possible through improved diet and exercice regimen monitoring and individualized optimisation of the treatment. © 2010 - Elsevier Masson SAS.
