Prevalence of amoebiasis at autopsy in Ibadan

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Volume 66, No. 5, Year 1972

The pathology of amoebiasis as seen in a study of 7,922 necropsies in the University College Hospital, Ibadan, has been studied. Amoebiasis accounted for death in 135 subjects (1·9%). The most common complications were liver abscess and peritonitis. There was a significant increased frequency of amoebiasis in pregnancy when compared with non-pregnant females. Ulcerative post-dysenteric colitis may be more frequent than this study suggested. © 1972.
