How to understand the frailty syndrome?

Cahiers Sante Medecine Therapeutique, Volume 30, No. 2, Year 2021

The frailty syndrome is a dynamic and evolving geriatric condition, involving many aspects of daily life, and associated with the risk of developing the loss of autonomy. Although there is no universally accepted definition, and despite the fact that there are numerous scales for identifying and screening frailty, both at the sarcopenic and multidimensional levels, its repercussions are significant: functional decompensation and risk of dependence in the acts of everyday life, increased visits to the emergency units and hospitalization, the risk of institutionalization and increased morbidity and mortality rates. The identification of frailty in ambulatory care is thus a necessity.
