Production and impacts of fishing on Lake Edward in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Production and productivity are decreasing on Lake Edward. The yield and income by effort unit are respectively 26.27 kg and 51.24 $US. On annual basis, the total capture is 15,169,614 kg offish and the total income is 29,590,265 $US. The number of fishing units has increased up to 275% above the recommended limit. This highlight the necessity of a better governance on Lake Edward, in order to regulate the fishing effort and to urge the fishermen to adopt sustainable fishing practices.
