SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON AFRICAN RESEARCH

The incidence of the A.B.O. blood group genotype and the rhesus (D) negative frequency in some Ghanaian population groups

Ghana Medical Journal, Volume 19, No. 2, Year 1980

The ABO and Rhesus (D) blood groups of blood donors at Tamale and Kumasi were tested by standard methods. The subjects were divided into various ethnic groups. The results were analysed and it was found that the incidence of group O is higher in the Ashantis than in all other ethnic groups. The Ashantis also have a higher incidence of group A and B and a very low incidence of 1.4% rhesus (D) negative. It has been proposed that since the present results show some differences from either results in the Gonjas, this group may be homogenous.
