Axial slices of the midbrain (part 2): Radioanatomy

Feuillets de Radiologie, Volume 46, No. 3, Year 2006

On any CT scan and MRI examination of the brain, axial planes through the midbrain with a characteristic "heart shape" are easily identified. At this level, various anatomical elements are present, and their lesions are associated with a wide spectrum of clinical symptoms. On these slices, intracranial hypertension has to be recognized to assess the severity of supra- and infra-tentorial lesions and implement appropriate care. © Masson, 2006.
