What about mycetoma in Tunisia? 13 Observations gathered over 13 years

Journal de Mycologie Medicale, Volume 15, No. 1, Year 2005

Mycetoma is a rare and little-known pathology in Tunisia. This paper presents 13 observations gathered over 13 years (seven actinomycosic mycetoma and six fungium). All the patients presented traditional lesions: fistulated tumefactions, located on the foot in seven cases. 12 patients presented grains (white in six cases, black in four cases and yellow in two cases). The causal agent was identified seven times: Actinomadura madame (3 times), Madurella mycetomatis (3 times) and Pseudallescheria boydii (1 time). After medical and/or surgical treatment, all the patients showed improvement in the short term. © 2005 Publié par Elsevier SAS.
