Anti-inflammatory activity of compounds isolated from the aerial parts of Abrus precatorius (Fabaceae)

Two triterpenoid saponins 1 and 2 isolated from the aerial parts of Abrus precatorius and their acetates derivatives, 3 and 4 have been tested for anti-inflammatory activity using the croton oil ear model. All the compounds exhibited anti-inflammatory activity but the acetates showed greater inhibition than the parent compounds.
