Chemical Analysis of Essential Oils of Piper laosanum and Piper acre (Piperaceae) from Vietnam

Journal of Essential Oil-Bearing Plants, Volume 21, No. 1, Year 2018

The essential oils obtained from the hydrodistillation of the leaves and stems of Piper laosanum C. DC. and Piper acre Blume (Piperaceae) were analysed by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The main compounds in the leaf oil of P. laosanum were α-curcumene (12.0 %), germacrene D (6.3 %), sabinene (6.1 %) and spathulenol (5.1 %), while the stem oil was dominated sabinene (14.9 %), benzyl salicylate (14.3 %) and (E)-nerolidol (9.3 %). On the other hand, (E)-nerolidol (22.7 % and 15.6 %), sabinene (19.5 % and 19.9 %) and δ-cadinene (12.4 % and 13.5 %) respectively were the main constituents of the leaf and stem oils of P. acre. This is the first report on the volatile compositions of P. laosanum and P. acre.
