A case of community-acquired Acinetobacter baumannii meningitis - Has the threat moved beyond the hospital?

Acinetobacter baumannii is a prolific nosocomial pathogen renowned for its multidrug-resistant nature. We report a case of community-acquired meningitis due to A. baumannii. The case highlights the potential pathogenicity of this organism and raises concerns that this highly adaptable organism may soon evolve into a significant community pathogen, too. © 2008 SGM.
