Posterior mediastinal thyroid: the role of CT scanning

Three patients presenting with mediastinal pressure symptoms were investigated by CT scanning. All had a posterior mediastinal mass lesion which CT scanning suggested could be thyroid before surgery. This investigation may aid the surgical approach. Further, the occurrence of a follicular carcinoma in a posterior mediastinal thyroid is reported.
