Recurrant abdominal pain in children – intussusception as the cause; [Rezidivierende Bauchschmerzen bei Kindern – Invagination als Ursache]

Chirurgische Praxis, Volume 90, No. 2, Year 2023

One has to distinguish between: four types of intussusceptions. The ileocolic is the most frequent one. Rare types of intussusception are: intussusception of the stomach, intussusception of the duodenum and the colo-sigmoid junction. Spontaneous reduction can occur in one third. Diagnosis is performed clinically and by ultrasound. Reduction is performed laparoscopically or by open surgery. The appendix should not be resected after successful reposition unless there is a significant infection. Antibiotics are indicated in peritonitis. The wrong diagnosis can cause a severe complication (IDBEC, Pediatric Surgical Database on Complications and Extraordinary Courses, including Rare Cases [33]). © 2023 Mediengruppe Oberfranken - Fachverlage GmbH & Co.
