The Field in Bourdieu and the scientific production in Brazil public administration

Espacios, Volume 38, No. 11, Article 1, Year 2017

In this paper, we reflect on the field of scientific literature in public administration in Brazil under the theory of the field by Pierre Bourdieu. For this, we consider the central concepts of habitus, field and strategies as defined by the author. Our analysis involves questions relating to the definition and characterization of the field and the institutional conditions of its structure and functioning in the Brazilian context. We conducted a research sustained by previous studies whose focus was the evaluation of the development of the public administration field in the 2000-2014 period. It is characterized in its approach as qualitative, interpretive and exploratory, being developed through articles submitted to content analysis. The results indicate that in this period the public administration field recorded significant progress represented by the new institutions and research groups that interact inside it. However, actors and groups of southeastern and southern regions of the country still heavily dominate public administration.
