Biochemical studies on CNS derangement in Kwashiorkor

Serum and cerebrospinal fluid (C.S.F.), creatine phosphokinase (C.P.K.) and lactic dehydrogenase (L.D.H.) assays were conducted in 29 cases of Kwashiorkor and 21 normal controls, and total proteins were also estimated in C.S.F. Conspicuous increments in C.S.F. levels of C.P.K. and L.D.H. were noted in Kwashiorkor as compared to controls. Biochemical evidences of neurological derangement in Kwashiorkor were presented. The data and their implications are discussed.
