Reciprocals in Malagasy

Oceanic Linguistics, Volume 43, No. 1, Year 2004

We analyze the highly productive reciprocal morphology in Malagasy (Madagascar) as a phrasal affix that combines with two place predicates (P2s), possibly complex, reducing valency by one. We argue for our analysis over one in which reciprocal morphology originates as an argument of the verb and incorporates into it. © by University of Hawai'i Press. All rights reserved.
