Phenylpropanoids from Tanacetum baltistanicum with Nematocidal and Insecticidal Activities

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, Volume 58, No. 4, Year 2022

One new and seven known secondary metabolites 1–8 were isolated, and the nematocidal and insecticidal activities of major compounds from Tanacetum baltistanicum Podlech (Asteraceae) were studied. The structures of these compounds were deduced based on various spectroscopic methods. Nematocidal activity was assayed by using second-stage juvenile (J2) of Meloidogyne incognita, whereas insecticidal activity was measured against insect pest Sitophilus oryzae L. Compounds 7 and 8, as well as their equimolar mixture, were tested for their nematocidal activity and insecticidal activity. The tested compounds showed excellent M. incognita larval mortality of 90–100% (EC50 = 0.06 and 0.05 mg/L, respectively). Similarly, compounds 7 and 8 showed good insecticidal activity (90 and 80%, respectively) against the rice weevil S. oryzae (EC50 = 0.028 and 0.080 mg/L, respectively), whereas the equimolar mixture of 7 and 8 showed an excellent activity of 95 and 100% respectively (EC50 = 0.02 mg/L).
