Immunofluorescent study of alpha‐foetoprotein (αfp) in liver and liver tumours. II. Localization of αfp in the tissues of patients with primary liver cancer (PLC)

Localization of αfp independent of the presence of serum was demonstrated only in a limited number of tumour cells in αfp‐positive hepatocellular carcinomas. These cells usually formed three‐dimensional groups with a definite tendency to localize near blood vessels and capillaries. Haematoxylin‐eosin staining did not reveal any morphological difference between αfp‐positive and ‐negative tumour cells. Copyright © 1971 Wiley‐Liss, Inc., A Wiley Company
