Description
Many authors have demonstrated the importance of transport network in an urban environment, with regards to the town structure, as well as dividing spaces in coherent regions known as “urban blocks”. In this paper, we propose the characterisation and optimisation of network sections in addition to the modelisation of transport network for facilitating and enabling a decision making system. Considering the complexity of transport network in Developing Countries and the diversity of parameters taken into account, we suggest a solution based on a general knowledge of the transport network, leading to a concentration on a finite number of relevant parameters for the characterisation of road sections. A method for the setting up of each of these parameters is also presented. The appropriate characterisation of the transport network leads to a graph which can facilitate the development of support tools for the improvement of the network. In this paper, this characterisation is applied to a case study of city of Yaoundé. © 2004 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
