Leishmaniasis in Mediterranean countries

The epidemiology of visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis is described in the Mediterranean countries where a recrudescence and a geographical spread of these zoonoses are noted. Recent findings concerning isoenzyme identification of the causative agents are given and the problems encountered in the development of vaccines to protect humans and dogs are discussed. © 1992.
