Ixodes (Partipalpiger) ovatus Neumann, subgen. nov.: identity, hosts, ecology, and distribution (Ixodoidea: Ixodidae)

Examination of numerous adult and immature specimens of Ixodes ovatus Neumann from Nepal and reared material from Japan has disclosed a number of unique and unusual features of both the adult and immature stages. Because of the magnitude of these differences, a new subgenus, Partipalpiger, is proposed to contain I. ovatus. Details on the hosts, distribution, and general ecology of this species in Asia are also given.
