Optimizing praziquantel dose for mass treatment of children with Schistosoma mansoni in Egypt: A trial to cut down the cost for developing countries

Pediatric Reviews and Communications, Volume 4, No. 1-2, Year 1989

A trial was performed with different doses of praziquantel on different grades of infestation with S. mansoni among primary school children to assess the optimum dose. A dose level of 30 mg/kg body weight was as effective as the standard dose (40 mg/kg body weight) when the egg count was 15 eggs/g stools or less. A better cure rate would be obtained with a dose of 40 mg/kg body weight in patients with heavy egg burden.
