Purpose. A modified Jones test was used to determine if multiple drops of 0.25% fluorescein/benoxinate (Fluress) could replace one drop of 2% sodium fluorescein for Jones testing. Results. In Group I, one drop of 2% sodium fluorescein passed faster than three drops of 0.25% Fluress (P=0.024). In Group II, no statistical difference was noted using one drop of 2% sodium fluorescein or six drops of 0.25% Fluress (P=0.2787). Conclusions. Six drops of fluorescein/benoxinate instilled over five minutes may be used for modifoed Jones testing. Individuals less than 50 years of age appear to have more rapid lacrimal transit times.
