SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON AFRICAN RESEARCH

Soft tissue tumours

Recent Results in Cancer Research, Volume 41, Year 1973

The outstanding tumor of this group was Kaposi's sarcoma, which accounted for almost one twelfth of malignancies of males. This tumor presents in one of three forms. Subcutaneous nodules are found in many adult patients, while children with the disease usually present with generalized lymph node involvement and with few or no cutaneous tumors. Rarely adults present with generalized cutaneous nodal and visceral lesions. Other connective tissue tumors are probably more common than in other countries but it is difficult to be certain if this is an effect of the population distribution. The relative frequency and possible interrelationships of tumor types are discussed.
