GIS approch for career development building materials Case study: Northern of former Region of Meknes-Tafilalet, Morocco

Journal of Materials and Environmental Science, Volume 7, No. 7, Year 2016

Morocco is a country in full development in housing and urban development area. This development requires the use of large quantities of construction materials. Since independence, the number of career progress is excessive but these careers are still undervalued vis- a-vis the characteristics of materials. Indeed, the overwhelming majority of these quarries are operated in a random manner because of the lack of geological and geotechnical study places great potential. In this study, we adopted the application of geographic information system (GIS) for career enhancement of existing building materials in the fields of South Rides Rif, Basin Sais, the central plateau and the Middle Atlas, with a geological diversity ranging from Paleozoic to Quaternary. This system allows the creation and organization of databases geological, geotechnical, reserves, production and estimated sustainable careers in question. Environmental problems for the majority of careers because of the uncontrolled establishment of careers. Creating thematic maps of these data allowed to have information on the status of these careers. Data geotechnical analyzes of samples taken in situ from these quarries are interpreted in comparison with AFNOR or Moroccan standards of quality materials.
