The Main Archaeological Discoveries in the Palaeolithic Sequences of the Taforalt and Rhafas Caves (Eastern Morocco); [Les principales découvertes archéologiques dans les séquences paléolithiques des grottes de Taforalt et du Rhafas (Maroc Oriental)]; [Los principales descubrimientos arqueológicos en las secuencias paleolíticas de las cuevas de Taforalt y Rhafas (este de Marruecos)]

Hesperis-Tamuda, Volume 54, No. 3, Year 2019

New research in Eastern Morocco display several element which highly put the light on the ancient peopling in this area. The most important results are from the Middle Stone Age and especially the cultural phase of the Aterian including the occurrence of novelties considered among the oldest. Such discoveries including beads help to better understand the Homo sapiens’ “cognitive complexity.” Sites in eastern Morocco also allowed to precise the MSA/LSA transition and this latter seems to be late compared to other areas in Africa. The LSA layers display as well the oldest elements of sedentism. © 2019, Universite Mohammed V de Rabat - Institut Scientifique. All rights reserved.
