A systematic revision of the African catfish genus Heterobranchus Geoffroy‐Saint‐Hilaire, 1809 (Pisces: Clariidae)

The economically important African catfish genus Heterobranchus has been revised using biometrical and osteological features. From the 11 nominal species assigned to this genus, four are recognized as valid: H. bidorsalis. H. isopterus, H. longifilis and H. boulengeri. A key to the species together with species descriptions and data on the distribution of each species are given, as is a discussion of their phylogeny. Copyright © 1990, Wiley Blackwell.
